Displaced people demand sharia enforcement in Bajaur Agency

PESHAWAR: The internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Bajaur Agency on Sunday announced that they would not leave the relief camps established across the province until the federal government enforced Swat-like Nizam-e-Adl regulations in the agency.

In this connection, representatives from different relief camps of Bajaur IDPs on Sunday held a meeting at Kacha Garhi relief camp in which they denounced the announcement of Bajaur Agency’s political agent that the IDPs could go back to their homes and the administration would also hand them relief goods on their return to their respective hometowns.

Maulana Gul Aziz and Qari Sirajuddin from Kacha Garhi Camp-1, Zahir Gul and Maulana Imtiaz from Kacha Garhi Camp-2, Shakirullah and Gulzada from Jalozai Camp and Dost Mohammad and Gulzaman from Benazir Camp held a meeting in which they said the IDPs would not leave their camps until Swat-like Nizam-e-Adl was enforced in the agency. Qari Sirajuddin told Daily Times that the IDPs representatives agreed on three demands: 1) enforcement of Swat-like Nizam-e-Adl, 2) compensation for the IDPs and killed or injured persons, 3) and the federal government’s assurance to the IDPs in black and white that peace had been fully restored in the agency.

Sirajuddin expressed concern over the TNSM chief Maulana Sufi Mohammad’s demand for Sharia enforcement in Malakand Division only. He said the people of Bajaur Agency had rendered more sacrifices for the TNSM compared to the people of Malakand division. He said the committee had decided to meet Sufi Mohammad for maintenance of peace and enforcement of Sharia in Bajaur Agency.

During a visit to Kacha Garhi camps, majority of the IDPs demanded that the federal as well as NWFP governments establish plastic houses for them. staff report
